海岸垃圾有顯示屏、滅火筒


【本報訊】針筒、滅火筒、顯示屏，這裏不是鴨寮街雜貨攤，而是香港的海灣。剛結束的國際海岸清潔運動2008，參加者在本港各海灣與沙灘收集垃圾，61次行動便撿得86,000件、7,500公斤垃圾。專家指出，海洋污染對生態環境構成嚴重威脅，政府應鼓勵回收業加強清理海灣垃圾。一年一度的海岸清潔運動，今年共有20間學校及30間企業機構響應，共舉行了61次清潔活動，地點包括康樂及文化事務署轄下的泳灘，以及其他港九新界的海岸地點。統計後發現，玻璃碎片是最普遍的海岸垃圾，其次為膠袋。建築材料則首次打入十大，令人關注建築工程衍生的環境問題。運動的報告也列出三大垃圾之最，有最要小心處理的垃圾，包括針筒及藥瓶；最不明來歷的垃圾則是電腦顯示屏，在麗都灣發現。還有滅火筒，榮獲最不可思議垃圾獎，在稔樹灣拾獲。

生物被垃圾纏死

環保促進會行政總幹事何惠萍說，環境保護署資料顯示，去年全年回收的玻璃不足1,000公噸，然而有近12萬公噸棄置到堆填區，反映港府在玻璃回收上的力度不足，而商戶未能適當地棄置大量使用過的玻璃樽。香港海洋公園保育基金副總監吳守堅說，很多時從海灘上被風吹到海上的廢物或者漂浮在海中的垃圾會纏繞海中的生物，令牠們喪失覓食能力而最終死去。

海洋垃圾 玻璃碎佔65%最多　鯉魚門索罟灣重災 環團疑食肆棄置

　　本港海洋污染問題不容忽視；有環保團體在海岸拾垃圾，發現玻璃碎片成為十大海洋垃圾之首，佔65%，而海鮮食肆林立的鯉魚門及索罟灣一帶，更是碎片滿布，質疑有食肆將空啤酒樽、汽水樽等打破成碎片棄置於海灘上。

　　除玻璃碎片外，建築廢料今年亦首度打入10大海洋垃圾的「排行榜」，排名第9。環保人士認為，隨政府實施建廢收費計劃，有人避免付費，隨處棄置建材廢料恐惡化。

建築廢料首入10大 或涉收費

　　環保促進會聯同多個團體於今年9月，舉行「香港區國際海岸清潔運動」，今年召集了20間中小學及30間機構逾2千人參與，2個月間在61處地點進行泳灘清潔運動，結果拾獲逾8.6萬件垃圾，重達7,500多公斤。

　　團體分析，今年最常拾獲的「十大垃圾」，排名的為玻璃碎片，佔整體拾獲垃圾中的64.8%，共55,650件。其次為塑膠袋及發泡膠箱及碎片（詳見表），今年亦發現不少出人意表的海洋廢物，包括電腦顯示屏、針筒及滅火筒等。

　　環保促進會項目經理陳德全指，玻璃碎片成為垃圾王，可能與部分食肆不規矩有關，「今次活動我們去了鯉魚門及索罟灣進行，這2片地方佔八成垃圾為玻璃碎片，而附近又有不少食肆，我們估計有部分食肆將食各用完的玻璃樽打碎，並撒於海灘，這樣便不礙眼。」他指本港現時並沒玻璃回收制度，希望政府盡快正視問題，如增設玻璃回收箱。

酒家︰打爛送海邊 更煩更遠

　　位於鯉魚門的海鮮酒家南大門經理伍先生反駁，一直將玻璃樽收集好，再送往垃圾房，「打爛玻璃樽的工夫仲多、仲危險！我們行去垃圾房只有10步路程，去海邊要行多幾十步！」不過，他承認，當空樽送往垃圾站之後，清潔工如何清理，則不得而知。

　　南丫島索罟灣天虹海鮮酒家亦回覆，每逢周六或周日，有很多玻璃樽要丟棄，「可能唔止幾箱」，但該店會將一箱箱的空樽運往垃圾站，路程不足5分鐘。

市民沙灘亂拋垃圾 兩月達8000公斤

【新報訊】很多人都喜歡到海灘游泳，伸展筋骨，又或與伴侶到沙灘漫步，享受浪漫，但沒公德的市民經常在沙灘內亂拋垃圾，令垃圾堆積如山，十分掃興！一批學生和市民在過去兩個月分別到本港多個沙灘，撿拾約8,000公斤垃圾，但意想不到的是，垃圾中除了有玻璃碎、膠袋外，竟然還有滅火筒和電腦顯示屏等物品。

本港海岸清潔運動已踏入第10年，今年集合了20間中小學和30間機構共2,000多人參加，在兩個月內進行了61次沙灘清潔運動，共拾到8.6萬件垃圾，重量超過7,500公斤。當中依次序最多的是玻璃碎、袋膠、發泡膠、煙頭等，不過，更離譜的是竟還有滅火筒、電腦顯示屏、車和魚竿等。

竟棄滅火筒顯示屏

有參加計劃的學生指，沒想過香港的泳灘這麼「污糟」，經過今次活動後，會將物件循環再造，亦不會再亂拋垃圾，即使是同學棄置的東西，亦可能會循環再用。他稱，執拾到的垃圾中，最意想不到的是有排球，感到很無奈，覺得港人沒有公民意識。

籌辦今年活動的環保促進會項目經理陳德存表示，大部分玻璃碎都是在鯉魚門和索罟灣的泳灘拾到，估計是來自附近食肆的啤油樽和豉油樽，不過他稱玻璃在循環再造後，可以變成衣服和地磚，希望政府加強回收玻璃樽。

海洋公園保育基金副總監吳守堅指出，垃圾在海中飄浮會纏海洋生物，導致生物死亡，同時滋生細菌引起紅潮，影響海洋生態，希望市民不要亂拋垃圾入海洋

與情人漫步沙灘，是一件十分浪漫的事，但要小心會弄傷腳。一個環保團體在兩個月間，在四十個不同的海灘發現八萬六千件垃圾，當中以玻璃碎片佔最多，其他一些令人匪夷所思的垃圾包括電腦顯示屏、滅火筒等，團體呼籲市民要有公德心。

竟有電腦芒 滅火筒

環保促進會今年九月至十一月，舉辦了六十一次的海岸清潔運動，結果在本港四十個不同的海灘，拾獲八萬六千件垃圾，共重七千五百多公斤。

該會項目幹事陳德全稱，拾得的垃圾逾六成為玻璃碎片，榮登「十大海灘垃圾」之首，當中索罟灣及鯉魚門兩個附近有不少食肆的沙灘，均拾獲大量玻璃碎片的地點。他認為，這反映了政府在玻璃回收上的力度不足，而且食肆也未能適當棄置玻璃樽。環保促進會行政幹事何惠萍指出，今年的清潔運動，同時發現各式各樣出人意表的海岸垃圾，例如針筒、滅火筒、電腦顯示屏等，她認為反映港人只要「就手」就到處胡亂拋棄垃圾。

團體呼籲要有公德心

香港海洋公園保育基金副總監吳守堅指，若垃圾被沖至海中會滋生細菌，若人到海中游泳，暢泳時不慎喝到海水，亂丟垃圾可能最終害到自己。

Green group blames charges for rise in dumped building waste

Illegal dumping of construction waste has increased since the government began charging contractors for dumping it three years ago, conservancy group Green Council said yesterday.

The group said this was illustrated by an annual coast-cleaning drive in which construction waste had figured among the top 10 pollutants for the first time.

About 7,500kg of rubbish was raked up by 2,100 corporate and student volunteers in the local leg of International Coastal Cleanup from September to last month, which scoured almost 42km of coastline.

Construction materials ranked ninth - or 1.9 per cent of the total - with 1,649 pieces. There is probably a lot more construction waste out there since we only targeted beaches that the public would go to, said Linda Ho Wai-ping, Green Council chief executive. Construction debris had not figured significantly before.

[Dumping] has been a big problem since the government came up with the law in 2005, said Ms Ho, who described the situation as a worrying trend in marine ecology. It is something that the government should address, she said.

Contractors are charged HK$27 to HK$125 for every tonne of waste going to government waste sites, including landfills and sorting facilities.

Lung Kwu Tan in Tuen Mun, Shek O beach and the Lamma Island beach Nga Kau Wan had been hardest-hit by construction rubble, Green Council said.


Volunteers also recovered a record amount of broken glass, mostly from popular seafood areas including Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma and Lei Yue Mun. At 55,650 pieces, they topped the list, followed by plastic bags and polystyrene boxes.

The group said it was common for coastal eateries to throw glass bottles into the sea, to avoid transporting them to dump sites.

Studies found glass bottles would take 1 million years to fully disintegrate, council project manager Thierry Chan Tak-chuen said. Plastic bags take 10 to 20 years.

Green Council urged the government to include glass in its recycling policy and step up its beach inspections and cleaning efforts.

A Leisure and Cultural Services Department spokesman said all its beaches were cleaned daily.

Seafood seafront serves up garbage feast

Seafood hotspot Lei Yue Mun has been dubbed Hong Kong's dirtiest stretch of coastline after a clean-up event last month.

More than 2,000 people from 20 schools and 30 companies fanned out across 61 sites around the territory during the annual International Coastal Clean-up from September 18 to November 8.

They collected 86,000 pieces of litter weighing 7,500 kilograms.

Making its debut on the list of the city's top 10 most common coastal litter was construction waste, with 1,649 pieces discovered mainly at Waterfall Bay near Cyberport.

Taking first place for the most trash collected at a single point, the stretch of Lei Yue Mun coastline, which faces Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan, recorded 2,786kg from 200 meters of coastline.

Another 846.99kg of trash was picked from 500m of coastline at Rocky Bay Beach, near Shek O.

An audit of trash collected during the month-long exercise revealed that glass fragments and bottles were the most common litter along the territory's coast with 55,650 pieces collected, followed by 4,040 plastic bags, 3,043 foam boxes and 2,817 discarded cigarette stubs.

Also found were 2,794 food containers, 2,064 bottle caps, along with 1,630 plastic bottles, 1,882 plastic stirring sticks and straws and 1,789 utensils.

Other notable items found included computer monitors, fire extinguishers and syringes.

``The profile we've built up on common marine litter shows seven out of 10 or 81.4 percent of items are related to boating activities and shore-side leisure, so people need to take responsibility for what they bring out and exercise good stewardship by not littering,'' said project manager Thierry Chan Tak-cheung, of the local ICC event organizer Green Council.

With construction materials also making an appearance in the top 10, Chan said more patrols are needed in blackspots, such as Waterfall Bay, to discourage illegal fly tipping. Last year's coastal clean-up in Hong Kong picked up 670kg of trash.

The government also collected 16,550kg of rubbish last year, the Marine Department said.

Deputy director of the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Timothy Ng Sau- kin said marine-borne litter kills more than a million seabirds and 100,000 mammals each year.
